Florasis Gold Filigree Peacock: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

The Florasis Gold Filigree Peacock is a high-end face powder compact that reflects the Florasis brand's homage to the Dai minority culture in China. The peacock, a symbol of auspiciousness, beauty, and happiness in the eyes of the Dai people, is beautifully represented in pure gold filigree on the dark green window of the face powder compact. The filigree peacock, which can be worn as a brooch, appears to be dancing lightly and spreading its wings to fly, encapsulating the designers' respect for and inheritance of traditional Chinese handicrafts and culture.

What sets this design apart is its lid, which features gold filigree, an old-style traditional Chinese handcraft. The lid has a detachable gold filigree peacock that can be worn as a brooch, making this piece both a piece of jewelry and a face powder attachment. This design is extremely valuable and ideal for a wide range of applications and modern lifestyles.

This personalized face powder is handcrafted with gold filigree, an ancient traditional Chinese craft used in ancient China's imperial court. Pure gold filaments as thin as 0.2mm are created and then used to finish the filigree by hand using techniques such as stacking, piling, knitting, weaving, pinching, filling, assembling, and welding. This piece was created by Mr. Yuan Changjun, a top Chinese filigree craftsman who has devoted himself to the filigree craft for over thirty years.

In addition to the gold filigree handicraft, the face powder lid employs modern 3D printing technology, which makes the motif on the lid clear and precise. This design not only inherits the traditional filigree craft but also innovatively applies modern technology. The project started in June 2021 and finished in January 2022 in China.

Combining the traditional Chinese handicraft of gold filigree with modern technology presented a unique set of challenges. The gold filaments used in this work are as thin as 0.2mm, and the motif and ornament on the product's surface are created with gold filaments using techniques such as stacking, piling, knitting, weaving, pinching, filling, assembling, and welding. Such handicrafts are difficult to create. Furthermore, the combination of a face powder compact and a piece of jewelry presents a challenge to the structure's design. The structure must be cleverly designed and hidden within the work without sacrificing its beauty.

The Florasis Gold Filigree Peacock is a testament to the designers' ability to combine tradition and innovation, resulting in a product that is both functional and beautiful. The design's recognition with the Golden A' Luxury Design Award in 2023 further underscores its uniqueness and the designers' commitment to preserving traditional Chinese handicrafts while pushing the boundaries of modern design.
